Laser cutting cost calculator with editable speed and setup

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

Laser cutting price starts with cut length divided by proven cutting speed, plus piercing and handling time. Charge setup once per batch, multiply time by your laser rate, then apply your pricing markup.

Laser cutting time and selling price

137.8 in/min, 1.8 seconds/pierce and 0.3 minutes handling reproduce the US catalog example at machinability 1 and 0.079 inch or thinner. Enter proven speed for your material, thickness, gas and laser power; this is not a machine cutting chart.

Use a speed for the actual cutting condition

Enter a speed proven for the material, thickness, assist gas, power and desired edge quality. This page intentionally does not label a generic speed as a manufacturer’s cutting chart. Its 137.8 in/min default reproduces the catalog’s thin-sheet example at machinability 1, with 1.8 seconds per pierce and 0.3 minute handling. A thick stainless profile or a cosmetic edge requirement needs different inputs. Feed reduction on small holes and tight corners belongs in a lower effective speed or an explicit additional allowance.

Follow the arithmetic in minutes

The run cycle is cut inches ÷ inches per minute + pierces × seconds per pierce ÷ 60 + handling minutes. Setup cost is setup minutes × hourly rate ÷ 60. At 48 inches, five pierces and the defaults, the run cycle is about 0.80 minute. The default 15-minute setup at $175/h costs $43.75 once for the lot. Each quantity carries its share of that setup plus its own run cost, with 30% markup on the resulting cost. The download uses the same equation and labels its yellow inputs.

Turn cutting service into a complete quote

This calculator prices laser service. It excludes stock, sheet minimums, remnant policy, deburr, leveling, sorting, bending, hardware, finish and freight. Use the sheet metal calculator when the buyer wants a finished part. If your hourly rate already includes gas, maintenance and intended profit, do not add those costs and a second profit allowance again. Keep the machine, program revision and measured cut-speed source with the quote so the operator can explain a difference between estimated and actual cycle time. A nest spanning multiple part numbers also needs a consistent allocation of setup and skeleton waste.

Sources and limits

Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
