Connect an AI assistant (MCP)

Before you start

• A QuotedPart account with a shop. The assistant signs in as you; nothing is priced anonymously. No account yet? Start one.
• An owner or estimator role in the shop (view-only members can't add quotes).
• An assistant that can add a remote MCP server by its URL, with sign-in. The address is always https://quotedpart.com/mcp; there is no key to paste.

Set it up

Claude (claude.ai and the Claude desktop app)

1. Open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. In a Team or Enterprise organization an owner adds it for the organization first.
2. Name: QuotedPart. Remote MCP server URL: https://quotedpart.com/mcp. Leave the advanced settings empty.
3. Choose Connect. A QuotedPart page opens: sign in and choose Allow.
4. In a chat, turn QuotedPart on in the tools menu and attach a STEP file or PDF drawing.

ChatGPT

1. Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode. In a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise workspace an admin may need to allow it.
2. Back in Apps & Connectors choose Create. Name: QuotedPart, MCP server URL: https://quotedpart.com/mcp, Authentication: OAuth.
3. Choose Create, then sign in to QuotedPart and choose Allow.
4. In a chat, choose QuotedPart from the + menu and attach the part's file.

ChatGPT and Claude rename these menus from time to time; if a name differs, look for custom connectors or apps.

Claude Code, Codex and other MCP clients

Any other client: Streamable HTTP at https://quotedpart.com/mcp with OAuth (authorization code with PKCE). The client finds everything from the server's 401 answer (protected resource metadata, then https://quotedpart.com/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server) and registers itself or uses a client metadata document. A link stays signed in while it's used at least once every 30 days.

What the assistant can do

estimate_price

Prices one part from its STEP, IGES or DXF model and/or its PDF drawing, at the quantities you ask for, and saves it as a quote in your account. Optional: material, process, quantities, and a quote to add the part to.

get_quote

Shows a quote again by its number (Q-1001), for example once a drawing has been read.

update_estimate

Re-prices a part on a quote with another material, process or quantity, without sending the file again.

list_shops

The shop your account prices in: its name, currency and units.

list_materials

The materials your shop prices, with price per kg or per piece and the processes each fits.

create_upload

For files too big to send in the chat: gives the assistant a one-time upload link (30 minutes).

A model alone prices in seconds. A PDF drawing is read by AI first (usually 20 to 60 seconds); the assistant waits for it, or comes back to the quote with get_quote. Drawing reads count against your shop's AI allowance, as in the app.

A worked example

1. You attach NW-1042 mounting bracket.step and its PDF drawing and write: “Price this bracket at 10, 50 and 100 pieces in 6061.”
2. The assistant calls estimate_price with the model, the drawing, the quantities 10, 50 and 100 and the material “6061”. QuotedPart measures the model, reads the drawing (part number, finish, tolerances, notes), routes the part on your machines and prices each quantity.
3. It answers with the quote number (Q-1042, say), the unit price and lead time at each quantity, anything to check (a tight tolerance, a stand-in material) and a link that opens the quote in your QuotedPart account.
4. “What would it be in 304 stainless?” The assistant calls update_estimate on Q-1042 and the quote in your account changes with it. Open the link to review it, download the PDF or send it to the buyer.

Disconnect

In QuotedPart, Integrations → AI assistants lists the assistants linked to your account, each with Disconnect. It stops working at once; quotes it made stay in your shop. Leaving the shop or becoming a view-only member also ends every link.
