What do CRS, galvanized, 5052 and 304 sheet cost per pound?

The example small-shop inputs are $0.95/lb for CRS, $1.10 for galvanized, $3.80 for 5052 and $3.20 for 304 sheet. They are catalog assumptions, not verified current sheet offers. Compare equal usable blank area and thickness as well as dollars per pound, because the materials have different densities.

Convert the price into the panel you need
Every blank in the first table measures twelve by twelve by 0.060 inches. The displayed amount is its volume times density times the assumed pound rate. It excludes cutting charges and markup. Aluminum can have a higher pound rate while a same-size blank weighs less, which is why a pound-only comparison can be misleading.
The 0.060-inch thickness is held exactly equal for this experiment. It is not an assertion that a particular gauge number gives that thickness in every material system. Use the actual ordered thickness, permissible tolerance, alloy, temper and coating designation. A brushed stainless face or protective film also changes what the purchasing line must specify.
| Material | Small-lot $/lb | Volume $/lb | 12 × 12 × 0.060 in blank | Density g/cm³ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CRS sheet (1008/1010) | $0.95 | No separate tier | $2.32 | 7.85 |
| Galvanized sheet (G90) | $1.10 | No separate tier | $2.70 | 7.85 |
| Aluminum 5052-H32 sheet | $3.80 | No separate tier | $3.18 | 2.68 |
| Stainless 304 sheet | $3.20 | No separate tier | $7.99 | 8 |
Purchased sheet area and delivered area differ
A production nest needs clearance between parts, perimeter margins, clamps and consideration of grain direction. Calculate how many accepted panels fit the purchased sheet before allocating cost. A remnant credit requires a usable shape and an inventory policy; a pile of unidentified offcuts is not automatically recoverable value.
The worked laser panel uses the same twelve-inch square with four quarter-inch through holes and no bends. It prices the catalog's standard sheet allocation, not an optimized customer-specific nest. At ten pieces, the CRS version sells for $14.05 each and the 304 version for $23.93. These are complete illustrative panel prices, distinct from the bare-stock conversion above.

The cutting route can outweigh the sheet delta
Laser time changes with thickness and the catalog material factor. Setup, programming, pierces, contour length, deburring and inspection remain even when the blank is inexpensive. The model uses $175/hour laser, $95 programming, $55 bench and $75 inspection where present, then 30% markup and a $65 minimum selling line. Material inputs are not a substitute for this routing.
This panel comparison excludes forming, welding, inserted hardware, coating, special surface protection and freight. A galvanized panel that will be welded or cosmetically finished needs a separate process review. Do not assume a low raw-stock row establishes the cheapest accepted finished construction.
Public distributor cut-sheet and full-sheet quotations for the exact four sizes were not independently verified, so no current market range or volume discount is claimed. Before purchasing, request the full sheet size, delivered condition, minimum order, cut fee and delivery charge on a dated offer. Carry that evidence into the quote and reprice the job when the supplier's validity period ends.
