Twelve wins from 50 sent quotes is a 24% sent-quote win rate. If ten quotes remain open, twelve wins from forty closed decisions is 30%. Both are correct for different questions. The example also wins $18,000 of $100,000 quoted value, an 18% dollar win rate.

Quote win rate for a matched cohort
Use one sent-date cohort and one cutoff date. A revised quote replaces its predecessor. Alternative quantity tiers are one opportunity; use the same expected release quantity in quoted and won value.
| Measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Wins / all sent | 24% |
| Wins / closed decisions | 30% |
| Won dollars / quoted dollars | 18% |
| Lost / no decision count | 28 |
Freeze a population and a decision date
Pick quotes sent during a period, such as January, and check their outcome at a defined cutoff. Do not divide this month’s orders by this month’s RFQs when those orders came from older quotes. Count a revised offer once, using its final issued version. Multiple quantity options on one buyer decision are one opportunity; adding all alternative extended prices creates quoted revenue the customer could never have purchased in a single release.
Repeat the calculation for useful groups
Run a separate cohort for each customer, then for quote-size bands. A repeat customer with ten small wins and one lost production release can have a high count win rate and a low dollar win rate. Keep the expected release quantity consistent between quoted value and booked value, and state whether freight, tooling and taxes are included. If a buyer splits an award, document whether the count is a win and enter only the awarded dollars. Do not compare a prototype-heavy group with a repeat-production group without noting the difference.
Use the result to choose a next action
A low result does not prove that price is too high. Record known loss reasons: delivery, missing capability, no award, price or an unanswered buyer decision. Ask the estimator to review a few real losses before discounting an entire rate card. An open quote is still open until your stated aging policy closes it. No industry benchmark is asserted here: forum anecdotes mix different opportunity types and denominators. Compare your own stable cohorts, then track whether a specific change improves won contribution dollars per estimating hour.
