A 6 × 4 × 0.25-inch plate with four quarter-inch through holes has 53.39 square inches of modeled exposed area, or 0.371 square foot. Both broad faces, outside edges and hole walls count. At the example $8 per square foot for 25 pieces, a $125 lot minimum controls the invoice, making $5 per part.

Exposed surface area and per-area finish cost
Box is a solid block with six faces, not an open enclosure. Cylinder includes both flat ends and no bore. Plate subtracts both hole openings and adds the bore walls. Hole layouts and overlap are not verified. No pockets, masking, threads or rack contact deductions are included.

Choose the solid shape the formula describes
The box is a solid rectangular block with six exposed faces. It is not a hollow open enclosure. The cylinder includes its curved outside and both flat ends, with no bore. The plate includes both large faces, perimeter edges and straight circular through-hole walls. A blind hole, pocket, counterbore, thread or folded sheet adds geometry that these models do not represent. For a complex part, use a checked CAD area and confirm with the finisher which surfaces are chargeable.
Correct the plate’s openings and walls
For each through hole, the formula removes the circle from both broad faces and adds circumference times plate thickness for the bore wall. Hole count must be whole and the model rejects obvious area or width conflicts. It cannot check whether the actual hole locations overlap or break through an edge, so verify the drawing independently. No allowance is taken for rack contacts or masking. A masked surface may save coating material while adding labor, which is a commercial question for the processor rather than an automatic area credit.
Convert units before applying the invoice rule
There are 144 square inches in one square foot. The area result is per part, then multiplied by quantity and the entered price per square foot. The model invoices the greater of that area total and the lot minimum; it does not add the minimum as another charge. Per-area pricing is only one possible supplier basis. Minimum racks, setup, process specification, color, masking and certification may dominate small batches. Send the actual drawing and scope to the processor before treating this geometric estimate as a supplier commitment.
