What are the best M1 (ECI) alternatives for a small job shop?

The best M1 alternative depends on whether the shop wants to replace an ERP or only speed up estimates. M1 is an ECI manufacturing ERP, so a migration changes customers, items, routings, inventory, accounting and job history. QuotedPart is a smaller layer for shop-rate RFQs. MRPeasy is a lighter, price-visible manufacturing system. JobBOSS², Fulcrum and ProShop are broader alternatives with different implementation and quality boundaries. Start with the record M1 is failing to own.

Do not replace the whole system for a quote problem
List the actual failure: slow drawing takeoff, missing material commitments, poor scheduling, quality records, accounting integration or customer communication. If only RFQs are slow, keep M1 and test a quoting layer. If the shop cannot trust the job status or routing, compare ERPs and include migration labor. Every vendor should receive the same part, revision, outside service and quantity-break example.
Ask for a quote, routing, material requirement, inspection step and export. The number of times an estimator re-enters a part number is a useful measure of fit.
| Option | Price shape | Best when | Migration question |
|---|---|---|---|
| M1 (ECI) | Request current module and deployment pricing. | Existing records and workflows are valuable; improve configuration first. | Can the specific bottleneck be fixed without migration? |
| QuotedPart | $199/month per shop; 14-day no-card trial. | RFQ arithmetic is the main delay. | How will accepted quotes enter M1? |
| MRPeasy | $49–$149 per user/month; no contract; 15 + 15 day trial. | Lighter production and inventory controls fit. | Which M1 records export and map? |
| JobBOSS² | Tailored price; 3–6 month implementation per ECI. | A job-shop ERP replacement is required. | What history and open jobs migrate? |
| ProShop | Customized ERP/MES/QMS pricing. | Quality and shop-floor traceability are central. | What implementation and export terms apply? |
Where a focused quote tool fits
QuotedPart can own setup, cycle, material, outside processing, margin and quantity breaks while M1 owns production. That is a deliberate boundary: it is quicker to trial and does not claim M1's inventory or accounting scope. The handoff can be manual or CSV/Excel, so document the person, fields and timing. If a planner spends 20 minutes per order rebuilding the routing, the ERP still needs attention.
This option is strongest when M1's accepted-job workflow is trusted and the estimator needs a lighter workspace for STEP and PDF RFQs.
When to compare full ERPs
Compare MRPeasy if transparent pricing and lighter MRP are enough. Compare JobBOSS² for a conventional job-shop deployment. Compare ProShop for a precision-shop ERP/MES/QMS boundary. M1 may remain the strongest choice if the shop's historical data, accounting and production controls are already reliable; migration should earn its cost by removing a material failure.
Request an export of customers, parts, routings, costs and open work before selecting a replacement. A system is only an alternative when the shop can leave with usable records.
Sources and limits
Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
