Odoo vs JobBOSS² for a machine shop

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

Odoo and JobBOSS² can both sit around quoting, but they start from different assumptions. Odoo is a configurable suite priced by selected apps and users; it can cover CRM, accounting, inventory and manufacturing when the shop owns configuration. JobBOSS² is ECI's job-shop ERP for make-to-order and custom metal manufacturers, with rate-based estimating, quantity breaks, scheduling, purchasing, quality and QuickBooks integration. Pick Odoo for platform breadth and an internal owner; pick JobBOSS² for a more direct job-shop implementation.

Compare the workflow you will operate

Odoo's flexibility is useful when the shop wants one platform across sales, accounting, inventory and manufacturing and can maintain customizations through upgrades. JobBOSS²'s public product facts are more specific to custom work: pre-set burden and labor rates, setup and run time, outside services, quantity breaks and one-click conversion from estimates to orders. The latter is a closer fit when the estimator's first record is a customer RFQ rather than a stocked product.

Give both vendors a 10-piece 304 bracket with a revision, outside plating, a partial shipment and a QuickBooks invoice. Ask who owns the customer, part, routing, quote revision and job status at each step.

Pick Odoo when the platform is the point

Odoo wins when the shop wants a broad business suite and has an internal administrator or trusted partner. A manufacturer that sells products, runs a website and needs CRM, accounting, inventory and manufacturing in one system may value that breadth. The risk is configuration drift: a custom field or workflow can become the shop's responsibility at every upgrade. Price the implementation, customization, training, support and exit plan, not only the app subscription.

Use the proof to show a quote revision and a partial shipment. Those cases reveal whether the configured system is a process or a collection of screens.

Pick JobBOSS² when the job shop is the point

JobBOSS² wins when the operation is make-to-order and the team wants a conventional job-shop ERP with capacity-aware lead times, job costing, inventory, purchasing, shipping and quality. ECI says implementation takes about three to six months and pricing is tailored to shop scale and functionality. That is a larger commitment than a quote-only fix, but it is also a clearer production boundary.

QuotedPart is a third option if the current ERP works and only RFQ arithmetic needs attention. It is weaker than both on production control. Choose Odoo for configurable breadth, JobBOSS² for job-shop depth, and a focused tool when neither ERP replacement is justified.
