At 1,000 pieces, the fictional Ti-6Al-4V pin below sells for $3.72 each, compared with $11.60 at 100 and $2.81 at 5,000. That is a manufacturing-cost illustration for a simple pin with one cross hole and groove. A bone screw, validated implant, sterile package or released medical device requires additional, separately defined work.

Use a small turned part that belongs on a Swiss
The pin finishes at 0.250-inch diameter and 1.500-inch length from 0.375-inch bar. It has one 0.0625-inch cross hole and one groove. The general dimensional allowance is ±0.001 inch. No helical bone thread, self-tapping flute, proprietary drive recess or special surface texture is implied by this geometry.
The example explicitly selects the Swiss routing so setup and live-tool work are charged on that machine, rather than hoping an automatic process suggestion chooses it. The Swiss center uses $110/hour with its catalog setup allowance. CAM, bench deburr and inspection remain separate operations, as shown in the detailed route.

Inspection and lot records are visible costs
We add sixty inspection setup minutes, 0.75 inspection minute per pin and a $120 lot-cost allowance for traceability administration and enhanced checks. Those are hypothetical scope inputs. They do not buy a certification, establish validation, or prove that a particular sampling plan satisfies a customer's quality agreement.
The engine's quantity-related run adjustment affects eligible operations; the table shows the resulting estimated minutes at each quantity. Check whether real production can reduce handling or measurement time that far. Tight sampling or every-piece inspection can prevent the labor reduction assumed by a general production curve. Use the customer's actual acceptance plan.
| Operation | Rate/h | Setup min/lot | Run min/part | Other lot | Other/part |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CAM programming | $95.00 | 18.6 | 0 | $0.00 | $0.00 |
| Swiss turn | $110.00 | 120 | 0.4 | $0.00 | $0.00 |
| Live tooling, 1 feature | $110.00 | 15 | 0.3 | $0.00 | $0.00 |
| Deburr | $55.00 | 5 | 0.2 | $0.00 | $0.00 |
| Inspect | $75.00 | 15.5 | 0.1 | $0.00 | $0.00 |
| Traceability and enhanced inspection | $75.00 | 60 | 0.75 | $120.00 | $0.00 |
Medical requirements must be quoted from documents
Ti-6Al-4V stock here uses the application's $71.70/lb small-lot and $28/lb volume assumptions with a 0.15 machining factor. Those are not a current certified-medical-bar quote or evidence that this named alloy condition is acceptable for implantation. Get the exact material specification, supplier documents and heat-lot requirements before releasing stock.
Cleaning, surface treatment, particle limits, passivation where specified, test reports, packaging and retained samples can change the route substantially. This table excludes them. It also excludes process development, qualification and regulatory work. State those boundaries when giving an early budget number so it does not become a misunderstood fixed-price commitment.
A bone screw deserves its own feature model and tooling review. Thread form, driving feature, burr control and testing cannot be represented by renaming this pin. Use the published schedule to reproduce this example only, then price the actual customer's revision and required records.
