What AI quoting software actually works for machine shops?
Price one of your own parts: Drop a STEP model or PDF drawing — about 90 seconds, no account.
Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.
The AI tools that work for job shops do three jobs. They read the RFQ, they estimate the time, and they leave the price for the estimator to set. They split into four kinds: tools that estimate machining time from the 3D model (Toolpath, Dashnode, Asytra, Machine Research), tools that read the drawing (QuoteBuddy, Veriti), tools that run the whole RFQ-to-quote workflow (CloudNC Quote Agent, Uptool, Paperless Parts, QuotedPart), and instant-quote storefronts for buyers (DigiFabster). Which one works depends on what your RFQs look like. The table shows what each vendor says its AI does, in its own words, checked October 30, 2026.
See how QuotedPart connects to your workflow with its API, MCP server, autonomous quoting and shop-specific learning.
What each tool's AI reads and produces
Read the "human decides" column first. Shop-side tools leave the final quote to a person, but they differ in how much of the reasoning you can see and change. Storefront tools are the exception: there the shop's rules commit a price to the buyer with nobody checking that part.
| Tool | AI reads | AI produces | Human decides | Published price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CloudNC Quote Agent | Emailed RFQs, CAD files, PDFs, drawings | Manufacturing plan, routing times, material and post-processing costs, DFM, ballooning, FAI | Estimator reviews the plan, sets the price, sends a PDF | Yes: per AI part, free manual mode |
| Machine Research | STEP, CATIA, Parasolid, SLDPRT and more; PDFs | Programming, setup and run time from ML trained on the shop's jobs; similar past parts | Estimator applies rate templates and sends | No: on request |
| Paperless Parts | 2D and 3D CAD files and PDFs | Geometry analysis (bends, holes, cut lengths, punch hits) for estimating | Estimator prices with the shop's workflow | No: custom |
| Toolpath | 3D models | DFM review, cycle time, material and cost estimates; Fusion CAM programs on Pro | Estimator reviews and sends by email or PDF | Yes: per seat |
| Uptool | CAD, drawings, BOMs, email | Estimates inside a quoting CRM | Estimator works side by side with the AI | From $195+/month |
| Veriti | Customer drawings by email | Draft quote: operations, hours, rates, vendors, margin, each pinned to the print | Estimator corrects with a reason; corrections become rules | Not published |
| QuoteBuddy | PDF, PNG, JPG drawings | Features, processes and cost breakdown, nesting, PDF quote | User adjusts before the PDF | Yes: per quote volume |
| DigiFabster | STEP, STL, DXF and other CAD; RFQ emails | Instant price for buyers on a storefront; line items from emails | Shop sets rules and review levels | Yes: from $415/month, annual |
| Dashnode | STEP/STP | Cost breakdown in seconds, bulk runs | User turns the report into a quote | No: on request |
| Asytra Quote | STEP | Features, route, cycle time, price per quantity | Estimator reviews and exports PDF | Yes: from $129/month |
| QuotedPart | RFQ email, STEP/IGES, DXF, PDF drawings | A priced draft quote: drawing facts (material, finish, tolerances, notes), a routing on the shop's machines and every quantity priced from its formulas and rates in about 90 seconds | Estimator checks the draft, edits any line and sends | Yes: $199/month per shop |
Which kind of AI fits your RFQs
If your RFQs come with clean STEP models and you mostly mill, model-based estimators are the most direct: Toolpath, Asytra, Dashnode and Machine Research all start from geometry. If most RFQs are PDF prints, and the material, finish, plating and certs are written on the print, you need a tool that reads drawings: QuoteBuddy, Veriti, CloudNC, Uptool or QuotedPart. If your estimator spends the morning digging RFQs out of email, look for email intake: CloudNC, Uptool, Veriti, DigiFabster and QuotedPart have it.
For defense work, the AI matters less than where the files go. Machine Research and Paperless Parts say they are ITAR registered and hosted in AWS GovCloud. CloudNC recommends against uploading export-controlled data. In QuotedPart, ITAR parts go in the ITAR vault, which encrypts them in the browser, and its AI never reads them.
A test that tells you whether it works for your shop
Vendor accuracy numbers are measured on the vendor's parts. Run your own test before you buy, on parts where you know the answer.
- Pick five parts you have already made: two simple, two typical, one ugly. Use the real RFQ files, models and prints as the buyer sent them.
- Write down the actual hours per operation and what you charged.
- Run each part through the trial with your own rates entered. Don't tune the tool to the answer.
- Score three things per part: time the AI got right within your tolerance, facts it missed on the print (material, finish, thread, tolerance), and minutes you spent fixing it.
- Check that you can see why each number is what it is. If you can't explain a quote to the buyer, you can't defend it.
- Price the subscription at your real monthly volume and user count, not the entry tier.
Where AI still falls short
None of these tools knows that your Haas VF-2 is tied up for three weeks, that this customer always pushes back on price, or that 17-4 runs slow on your lathe until someone tells it. CloudNC's tool learns from your interactions, Machine Research's model trains on your job history, and Veriti and QuotedPart keep your corrections as rules or editable formulas. Outside instant-quote storefronts, the vendors here describe a person signing off on the quote, and that is right: the estimator owns the price.
QuotedPart's own limits are worth stating: no nesting, no DFM report, no ballooning or FAI, no scheduling, inventory or accounting: it is a quoting tool, not an ERP.
Sources and limits
Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
- CloudNC Quote Agent: The agent proposes a manufacturing plan, routing times, material and post-processing costs and inspection requirements from the shop's equipment and costs entered in Myshop; the estimator reviews, sets the price and sends a PDF (their words: “The estimator decides whether to quote, reviews and adjusts the plan and costs, sets the price and sends a PDF to the customer.”) — source (checked 2026-10-30)
