Katana alternatives for a custom job shop

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

For a custom machine shop, shortlist JobBOSS², Fulcrum or ProShop if the missing workflow is job routing, production control or shop-specific estimating. Keep Katana in the comparison if inventory across products, channels and locations is the real requirement. Katana describes that connected product-business workflow on its own site. QuotedPart addresses preparation of drawing-based quotes; it is not a replacement for Katana's stock, purchasing or manufacturing records.

See how QuotedPart connects to your workflow with its API, MCP server, autonomous quoting and shop-specific learning.

First distinguish a SKU from a customer job

A product business repeatedly builds or buys items for stock and sells them across channels. A job shop often receives a new drawing, agrees a revision and quantity, buys specific stock and runs a route for that order. Many shops do both. Write down which information must persist across orders and which belongs only to one job before comparing tools.

The table uses vendor descriptions checked October 30, 2026. It is deliberately a fit table rather than a claim that one product cannot support a scenario. Ask the vendors to demonstrate your hybrid case if the shop sells a standard product while also doing custom work.

Count what must move on the cutover date

For an illustrative shop, list 100 stocked SKUs, 30 open jobs, 20 outstanding purchase orders and 15 unshipped sales lines. These counts do not add to a meaningful single migration total because a purchase line may supply several jobs. Instead reconcile stock units, reserved quantities, due dates, supplier commitments and document revisions independently.

Assume checking each of 30 open jobs takes 20 minutes: ten hours. Checking the 20 POs takes another ten minutes each: 3.33 hours. At $60/hour, those two checks alone represent about $800 of internal effort. That excludes import preparation, inventory counts, financial balances, training and integrations. Use actual record counts to replace these examples before budgeting a move.

Test the hybrid business rather than a perfect sample

Receive a standard component into stock, consume some on a custom assembly and sell the rest as a spare part. Change the assembly's revision and partially ship the order. Check what remains available, reserved, ordered and due. This reveals whether the proposed data model matches how your shop earns money.

Katana's published channel and inventory connections are stronger than QuotedPart's quoting-only scope for this scenario. The ERP candidates should demonstrate production and job-cost controls on the same transaction. A lower quote-preparation subscription cannot substitute for those records, and you should not count an unproven connector as a migration saving.

Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
