What quoting software suits a prototype / quick-turn shop?

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.
A prototype shop needs software that shortens the path from drawing to a defensible number without hiding setup and material risk. For quantities 1–10, the best workflow shows setup recovery, stock availability, revision notes, inspection and expedite assumptions before it shows a polished PDF. QuotedPart suits that decision because it lets a small shop use its own rates, STEP/PDF inputs and branded quote at $199 per shop per month. Learned or portal tools can be stronger when self-service or repeat-family automation matters more than same-day human review.

What a quick-turn quote must expose
Use a one-off 6061 sensor bracket: 55 minutes setup, 18 minutes machining, $42 stock, $28 inspection and a 48-hour expedite. At $105/hour, setup is $96.25 and cycle is $31.50, so the direct basis is $197.75 before expedite and margin. If a tool hides setup inside a per-piece average, the quantity-1 quote will be too low and the quantity-10 quote may be too high. Prototype work needs the fixed cost visible.
Ask every product to quote the same part at quantities 1, 3 and 10, then change the drawing revision. Time upload, correction, approval and customer PDF. The fastest first answer is not useful if a revision starts over.
| Test | Why it matters | Record |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity 1 | Setup and inspection dominate. | Fixed cost and margin basis. |
| Quantity 10 | Setup recovery and material break change. | Quantity-break arithmetic. |
| Revision | One-off work changes frequently. | Old quote, new quote and assumptions. |
| Expedite | Lead time can require premium handling. | Hours, premium and promise owner. |
| PDF-only RFQ | Customers often lack a clean CAD model. | What the estimator must enter manually. |
Compare tools by time-to-quote
Paperless Parts is stronger for a structured estimating team and large quote packages. Machine Research is stronger when a shop has enough historical jobs for learned geometry and ShapeSearch. CloudNC Quote Agent is stronger for a free manual mode, per-part AI credits and DFM/FAI outputs on commercial CNC work. A customer portal such as DigiFabster is stronger for standardized online ordering. Those strengths matter only if they match the prototype shop's actual queue.
For a two-person shop, count estimator minutes, not feature names. A tool that saves 12 minutes on a quantity-1 quote may be worth more than a deep ERP integration that is used twice a month.
Where QuotedPart fits
QuotedPart is designed for the human-reviewed quick-turn case. The estimator can keep a rate card, change setup or material, add inspection and outside work, and send a branded quote. It is weaker on automatic customer checkout, learned CAD predictions and DFM reports. That is acceptable when the shop's advantage is knowing which machine can make the one-off tomorrow and what the stock actually costs today.
Choose the product that preserves the prototype's uncertainty instead of averaging it away. Run five real RFQs, include one drawing revision and one material shortage, and keep the correction notes with the buying decision.
Sources and limits
Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
