Price an expedite from the work it changes

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

An expedite with $120 added overtime, $250 documented schedule disruption, $85 extra freight and $125 vendor premium adds $580 of cost. At a 20% margin on that added service, the fee is $725. The base part quote stays separate so the buyer can see what the earlier date changes.

Cost-backed expedite fee

If the base job rate pays normal wages, enter only the incremental overtime premium and burden. If the extra shift is entirely additional labor, enter its full incremental cost. Do not also count the same lost capacity as displaced-work cost.

Measure the change to the existing plan

Start with a feasible standard schedule and identify what must change to meet the requested date. Overtime cost depends on what the base quote already pays: if normal wages are covered, enter the incremental premium and burden; if an entirely extra shift is needed, use its full added cost. A schedule-bump cost needs a documented basis, such as a real recovery expense on another order. Do not charge the same lost capacity both as full overtime and as displaced contribution without reviewing the overlap.

Get the buyer to approve a defined offer

Example wording: At your request, we can target [date] instead of the standard [date] for [part/revision/quantity]. Additional expedite charge is [fee], covering [specific changes]. This offer requires written approval by [cutoff], complete approved files and confirmation from [outside processor]. The original scope and price otherwise remain as stated in quote [number]. Please confirm the revised schedule and fee before we release the changed routing. Do not describe an unconfirmed processor slot as a guaranteed ship date.

Write the fallback and record the result

State what happens if approval arrives late or the buyer changes the drawing: the shop must review the revised delivery commitment again. Keep expedite approval with the traveler and note any outside-vendor confirmation. After shipment, compare actual overtime and freight against the fee so the next urgent job uses evidence rather than an arbitrary multiplier. This policy does not create capacity where none exists. If material, tooling, inspection or cure time makes the date infeasible, decline the date and offer the earliest schedule you can support.
