Global Shop Solutions vs JobBOSS² for a job shop

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

Global Shop Solutions and JobBOSS² are both ERP candidates when a job shop needs quoting to connect with production and actual costs. Global Shop Solutions documents BOM/router estimates and time variance by sequence; JobBOSS² documents job-shop rate-based estimating and quote-to-order conversion. Choose the system that preserves your method and makes overruns understandable. Neither vendor's public pages establish a universal lower price or a reliable machine-count threshold for switching.

Compare the path from RFQ to closed job

The sourced table uses each vendor's pages checked October 30, 2026. Global Shop Solutions describes production and financial functions within its suite. ECI positions JobBOSS² for make-to-order and custom metal manufacturing. A comparison should begin with those shared responsibilities and then test the details that make your jobs difficult.

Rerun one job that lost money

Use a real closed job with known actuals, hiding its final selling price until the estimate is complete. Include material purchased, setup hours, machine time, bench work and outside invoices. An ideal repeat part proves less than a job where the team can explain exactly what went wrong. Ask each vendor to show how that explanation changes the next estimate.

Here is a simple fictional control total: a 50-piece order was quoted with $500 material, $200 setup, $1,000 machine time and $150 outside processing. Cost was $1,850, sold at 25% markup for $2,312.50. Actual setup was $350 and outside processing was $225, so actual cost reached $2,075. The $225 overrun reduced gross profit from $462.50 to $237.50 before any unmodeled expenses. Check that the report identifies the causes instead of merely showing a worse margin.

Make the next quote use the lesson

Copy the part into a new estimate, change the revision and raise setup and outside-service assumptions. Confirm that the changed numbers are visible to the estimator and that the original quote stays intact. If production captured hours in a different work center, ask how that variance is reconciled. A report cannot teach the next quote if nobody owns the correction.

Then bring a multi-level assembly with bought-in hardware. Compare the purchasing requirement and component quantities after the order is won. Global Shop Solutions' BOM/router emphasis makes this a useful demonstration area; it is not proof that another ERP cannot handle the same case. Score the demonstrated outcome and the proposed configuration.

Budget the migration or avoid it

Require separate proposals for software, conversion, training and ongoing support. If the existing ERP already handles production well, first test whether its own estimating process can be improved. QuotedPart can assist drawing/model interpretation and works with JobBOSS², but a Global Shop Solutions transfer needs an agreed import or re-entry plan. It does not replace either ERP's shop-control or accounting scope.

Sources and limits

Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
