Is Global Shop Solutions quoting enough for your shop?

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.
Global Shop Solutions quoting can be enough when your estimator already has a reliable router and material plan. Its estimating page describes single-level and BOM estimates, reuse of repeat-job data, sales-order creation and estimated-versus-actual time by sequence. Those are valuable connections to the shop floor. Add a separate quoting tool only after measuring a specific bottleneck, such as interpreting new drawings. In the illustrative 40-piece job below, missing one hour of setup understates cost by $100, or $2.50 per part.

Where the built-in workflow is stronger
The vendor's estimating and BOM pages, checked October 30, 2026, describe a shared chain from estimate/router to sales order, work order and actual costs. That is a stronger operational connection than a standalone pricing screen. Repeat work can use the history already collected in the ERP instead of rebuilding an estimate outside it.
Keep responsibility clear: the ERP can preserve an estimator's decision, but someone still needs to validate the manufacturing method. A past router for a loose-tolerance part may be wrong for the customer's new positional tolerance. Ask the demonstration to show where a revised inspection plan changes quote cost and how that plan follows the won job.
| Function | Vendor description | Your acceptance check |
|---|---|---|
| Estimate/router | Single-level and BOM estimates | Check assembly quantities and setup basis |
| Won quote | Automatic sales-order generation | Compare line prices and revision |
| Feedback | Actual versus estimated time by sequence | Trace an overrun to the next estimate |
| BOM | Import/export and router conversion | Inspect purchased parts and revision ownership |
Audit a real cost buildup before buying another tool
For an example 40-piece 6061 workholding plate order, assume $12 stock per piece, two hours of setup at $100/hour, 12 minutes of machining per piece at $100/hour, and $160 outside anodizing for the lot. Cost is $480 material + $200 setup + $800 machining + $160 finish = $1,640. A 25% markup produces a $2,050 quote, or $51.25 per plate, excluding freight and tax.
Change setup from two hours to three while holding everything else fixed. Cost becomes $1,740 and price becomes $2,175, or $54.375 per plate before rounding. Verify that the changed setup affects cost once per lot and that any work-center burden is not charged twice. This is a manual audit example, not a Global Shop Solutions benchmark or a claim about its default rates.
When a separate estimator earns its place
Time five recent RFQs from receipt to an approved manufacturing plan, then from that plan to a sent quote. If most time goes into checking drawings, deciding workholding or counting operations, evaluate tools on that work. If most time goes into finding current vendor prices or fixing your own item records, another estimator may simply copy the same uncertainty into a new screen.
QuotedPart can read PDF drawings and measure STEP models at your shop's rates. It exports CSV or Excel for other systems; do not treat that as a ready-made Global Shop Solutions connector. Require a sample import accepted by your ERP administrator before including avoided re-entry in an investment case. Global Shop Solutions remains stronger for scheduling, inventory, accounting and closed-job feedback.
Sources and limits
Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
