E2 vs Global Shop Solutions: clarify the E2 product first

An E2-versus-Global-Shop comparison must first identify which E2 product the shop runs. ECI calls JobBOSS² the former E2 Shop and presents E2 MFG separately for existing repetitive-production customers. Those are not interchangeable labels. Global Shop Solutions is another manufacturing ERP with estimating, BOM/router and production/financial workflows. Compare the installed product and a specific replacement proposal rather than an undefined “E2” feature list.

Resolve the name before the demonstration
ECI's JobBOSS² and E2 MFG pages were checked October 30, 2026. Its JobBOSS² FAQ uses the former-E2-Shop name. The E2 MFG page is explicitly for existing customers and describes repetitive production with multi-level BOM support. If you have an old E2 license, record the exact product, version, deployment and licensed modules from the running installation or your ECI agreement.
| Name | Current published description | What your shop must confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy E2 SHOP | JobBOSS² FAQ identifies it as the earlier product name | Actual installed release and migration path |
| JobBOSS² | Make-to-order job-shop ERP | Offered deployment and conversion scope |
| E2 MFG | Existing-customer ERP for repetitive production; multi-level BOMs | Support and future needs for your installation |
| Global Shop Solutions | Integrated manufacturing suite; BOM/router estimating | Equivalent scope for your jobs and assemblies |
Use a BOM test with released quantities
Take an illustrative product order for 100 assemblies, each requiring two machined spacers and four purchased bolts. The full requirement is 200 spacers and 400 bolts. Schedule releases of 25 assemblies each: 50 spacers and 100 bolts per release. If the buyer revises the spacer after the first release, 150 spacers remain to be made or reconciled with stock.
At an assumed $12 per spacer and $0.50 per bolt, the unrevised component basis is $2,400 + $200 = $2,600 before assembly labor or other parts. If the remaining 150 spacers increase to $13, the change adds $150. Check which releases receive the new revision and cost. A correct final total cannot excuse the wrong physical revision on the next shipment.
Compare repetitive work with high-mix work
For repeat products, test planning of components, purchased stock, releases and revision effectivity. For one-off job-shop work, test how quickly a new part receives setup/run assumptions, outside services and a customer quote. E2 MFG's published multi-level-BOM emphasis and JobBOSS²'s job-shop emphasis point to different demonstrations. Global Shop Solutions' BOM/router and actual-variance features should be tested on both if your business mixes them.
Ask suppliers to show what happens when a release changes after material is ordered, and how obsolete documents are prevented from being used. Treat any promised converter as project scope that needs acceptance criteria. The public pages do not establish a universal migration effort or price, and a directory listing for one E2 product cannot safely price another.
Decide whether ERP replacement is necessary
If the current system handles orders and costs but new-drawing estimates are slow, first measure that bottleneck. QuotedPart can help prepare a reviewed quote and works with JobBOSS²; do not assume that statement applies to every legacy E2 installation. For Global Shop Solutions or E2 MFG, agree a separate export/import or re-entry route. A quoting layer does not replace manufacturing planning or the ERP's financial records.
Sources and limits
Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
