Is RealTrac quoting good enough, or do I need separate quoting software?

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

RealTrac is likely enough when your shop wants quotes tied to routings, job costing, MRP, purchasing and inventory. Its public shop-management page lists those modules, and its buying page offers monthly no-contract SaaS, annual SaaS and a one-time purchase path without publishing dollar prices. A separate quoting tool earns its keep when the ERP is sound but PDF/STEP intake and rate-based one-offs are slow. Test the same RFQ in both and keep the handoff explicit.

What RealTrac should prove

Give RealTrac a 20-piece 1018 shaft with a revision, outside heat treat, two operations and a customer due date. Ask the estimator to build the quote, routing and job-cost basis, then show how an accepted quote becomes a job and how actual labor changes the next estimate. The public scope establishes that quoting and job costing exist; your shop still needs to verify setup, quantity breaks, outside processing, approvals and estimate-versus-actual reporting.

Record which values are inherited from the routing and which are typed into the quote. A copied rate is an implementation risk even when the menu says quoting.

When RealTrac is the better boundary

Keep quoting in RealTrac when the shop needs one record from estimate through purchasing, MRP and job close. The system's breadth avoids a second copy of the routing and gives the planner a live production context. Before buying a separate tool, improve rate cards, templates, RFQ assignment and approval rules inside RealTrac and measure quote minutes again.

RealTrac's flexible monthly, annual and one-time buying paths are useful, but ask for the current price, module list, support and data export in writing.

When a separate tool is worth testing

A separate estimator helps when the ERP is right for production but slow for a PDF-only RFQ, a remote estimator or a quick quote before the part exists in the master data. QuotedPart can expose setup, cycle, material, finish and margin at $199 per shop per month. It does not replace RealTrac's MRP, purchasing or job costing; the accepted quote must be reviewed and entered or exported.

Choose the separate path only after timing the handoff. If it adds more re-entry than it removes, keep the work in RealTrac.

Sources and limits

Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
