Can QuotedPart replace WorkCell for your shop?

QuotedPart can be an alternative for the estimating portion of a WorkCell purchase. It cannot replace the full operating scope WorkCell currently advertises. WorkCell Core lists quoting, BOMs, routing, scheduling, floor data and shipping at $995 per month plus $2,500 implementation. QuotedPart's $199 monthly shop plan makes sense to evaluate when you intend to keep your existing production system and improve quoting. Choose based on whether the problem continues after the buyer accepts the quote.

Find the record the shop cannot trust
If your main complaint is that a drawing waits three days for an estimate, trace that delay through intake, engineering review and approval. A quoting tool may address it without moving inventory and open orders. If the accepted order then loses its routing, purchased hardware and promised ship date, the project is broader than quoting.
WorkCell describes a shared operational record and an implementation that imports customers, items, BOMs, routings and open orders. Its broader scope is the stronger fit when those records need rebuilding together. QuotedPart offers estimating, buyer acceptance and order records, but do not treat that as equivalent to the production and material planning functions in WorkCell's offer.
| Current failure | First evidence to collect | Likely project boundary |
|---|---|---|
| RFQs wait on one estimator | Queue age and review steps | Estimating and approval |
| Material is bought twice | Reservations and open purchase orders | Inventory and purchasing |
| Schedule changes are invisible | Dispatch list versus floor status | Production control |
| Won quote must be retyped | Missing fields in the handoff | Quote-to-order integration |
Do the implementation arithmetic openly
At unchanged monthly rates, WorkCell Core's three-year subscription is $995 × 36 = $35,820. Add its listed $2,500 implementation amount and the modeled total is $38,320. Professional produces $2,495 × 36 + $5,000 = $94,820. Those are public-price scenarios before tax, optional work and internal labor, not signed offers.
QuotedPart alone would be $199 × 36 = $7,164. A fair comparison must add the cost of keeping the other systems it does not replace. For example, if your existing production system hypothetically costs $700 monthly, keeping it alongside QuotedPart produces ($700 + $199) × 36 = $32,364 before migration or connection work. That $700 is an invented planning input, not a price attributed to any ERP vendor.
| Scope | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|
| WorkCell Core with listed implementation | 36 × $995 + $2,500 | $38,320 |
| WorkCell Professional with listed implementation | 36 × $2,495 + $5,000 | $94,820 |
| QuotedPart alone | 36 × $199 | $7,164 |
| QuotedPart plus hypothetical retained ERP | 36 × ($199 + $700) | $32,364 |
Reconcile one open job before moving the rest
Use a fictional assembly with two machined components, purchased bearings and anodized housings. At cutover, suppose the shop has already bought the bearings and completed the first machining operation. The new system must preserve the remaining demand and cost without purchasing the bearings again or scheduling completed work.
Ask the implementation team to reconcile quantities ordered, received, reserved, scrapped and shipped. Check the open balance and remaining routing against the old system. An imported customer list is not evidence that partially completed jobs migrated correctly. Keep both records available until the office and floor agree on the result, and assign a person to resolve discrepancies.
Get current commitments instead of relying on old positioning
WorkCell's current pricing page lists unlimited users, a Professional tier with quality and full API access, and a Scale tier with company-wide accounting. Its home-page FAQ specifically names QuickBooks and Shopify as live connections. Ask for the exact availability and mapping of any other integration you require. An API alone does not establish a completed connector.
We did not establish a self-service trial, a STEP/PDF estimating specification or a guaranteed migration duration for your shop. Request those in the proposed scope where relevant. A full-platform purchase needs an agreed cutover and ownership plan. A quoting-only purchase should prove it can hand accepted work into the system you are keeping. Buying the smaller tool is sensible only when that boundary matches the actual problem.
Sources and limits
Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
