Carry the approved routing onto the floor

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

A traveler tells the operator what to make, which revision governs and what evidence is needed before the job moves on. The downloadable example follows a 6061 bracket through programming, two mill operations, deburr, inspection and anodize. It separates the quote’s expected minutes from actual time and release sign-offs.

Lock the identity before releasing operations

The header records job number, customer PO, part, drawing and model revision, quantity, material specification, heat or lot, required date and document location. A traveler copied from an old job is not ready until those fields match the new order. Keep superseded instructions out of the working packet. The template includes an approval field so the person releasing the job can confirm that the routing, files and commercial changes have been checked together.

Give each operation a clear completion record

Each row names the work center, expected setup minutes, expected run minutes per piece, quantity in, quantity accepted, quantity rejected, actual time and operator/date sign-off. Do not fill production sign-offs from the estimate. Outside anodize is shown as a separate routing step with vendor and certificate references, because a part is not complete merely because machining stopped. Add hold points for first-piece approval and any inspection that must happen before a feature becomes inaccessible.

Use actuals to improve the next estimate

Record setup once per release and run time on the same basis as the standard. If an operator combines two jobs in one setup, note the allocation instead of forcing all time onto the first traveler. Record a reason for rework or extra handling so a repeat quote can distinguish a learning event from a persistent routing omission. This template does not control document permissions or automatically update orders. File the completed packet in the shop’s approved record system and use its actuals when reviewing the next release price.
