Machine shop estimating spreadsheet with routing and quantity breaks

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

Build a machining estimate by pricing each operation separately: setup once per lot, run time per part, stock by purchased weight, and outside processing by lot plus piece. This workbook keeps those costs visible.

Download and use

Start with the routing, not the selling price

Download the workbook and save a job-specific copy before replacing the yellow input cells. Enter the buyer, part number and drawing revision. The eight operation rows allow programming, multiple milling or turning operations, deburr, inspection and a special process. Rates come from the Rates tab, so the same work center does not silently acquire a different hourly rate on every line. An unused operation stays blank with zero minutes; add rows only after extending the sum and lookup formulas.

Use the filled bracket example

The example is a two-setup 6061 bracket, not a customer job. It includes 1.6 lb of purchased stock at $4.50/lb; programming 60 minutes at $95/h; milling 75 setup minutes and 20 run minutes at $95/h; deburr 3 run minutes at $55/h; and inspection 10 setup minutes plus 2 run minutes at $75/h. Anodize is $125 per lot plus $3.50 per part. The workbook applies 30% markup and a $150 line minimum independently at 10, 25 and 50 pieces. Change the example rather than treating these inputs as a market price.

Review what the spreadsheet cannot infer

The file does not read a drawing or determine a toolpath, workholding plan, tolerance strategy or approved finish. You supply those decisions. Material purchasing minimums, freight and a second setup for a split release need explicit rows or a revised allocation. Keep setup separate from cycle time so a larger quantity reduces setup cost per part without erasing actual production time. Open the XLSX in Excel, or create a blank Google Sheet and choose File → Import → Upload; after conversion, verify the example totals before sharing an editable copy with coworkers.

Sources and limits

Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.

  • All dollar amounts and operating inputs on this page are editable examples, not market averages or supplier offers.
