Paperless Parts vs Tempus Tools for sheet metal

Your part priced in about 90 seconds, no account.

Paperless Parts is the broader estimating platform; Tempus Tools is the more sheet-metal-specific workflow in the public material checked. Paperless Parts describes CAD/PDF viewing, geometric attributes, nesting, configurable formulas and ERP integrations, with negotiated pricing. Tempus's quoting help article documents DXF/DWG upload, material, thickness, cutting technology, quantities and charging by parts per sheet or best yield. Pick Tempus when sheet utilization and cutting detail are the center of the quote; pick Paperless Parts when the shop needs a multi-process RFQ operation and ERP handoff.

Sheet yield is the first proof

Use a 16-gauge enclosure panel with a DXF, material grade, thickness, 24 parts per order and a powder-coat lot charge. Tempus should show the uploaded geometry, material and thickness, the selected cutting technology, quantity and the nesting choice. Paperless Parts should show how the part enters its quote, how material and labor are calculated, and how the accepted result reaches the ERP. Record the nest yield and the remnant assumption in both evaluations.

A best-yield option is not automatically the lowest customer price. It may trade off grain direction, part orientation, handling or a remnant the shop cannot use. The estimator still owns that decision.

Where Tempus Tools wins

Tempus wins when the estimator's recurring question is “how many parts fit on the sheet and what does this cutting technology cost?” Its help article gives the shop a concrete workflow rather than a vague instant-quote promise. Ask about bends, welds, hardware, secondary processing, minimum charges and material purchasing; the article reviewed is focused on cutting quote inputs. A laser-only answer may understate a complete fabricated assembly.

Request a current commercial proposal and a data export before the trial ends.

Where Paperless Parts wins

Paperless Parts wins when sheet metal is one of several processes and the shop needs a common RFQ queue, customer rules, approvals and named ERP integrations. It is stronger for a mixed shop and larger quote packages, though its negotiated price and implementation require more procurement work. Ask it to show the same DXF nest and the downstream routing rather than assuming its general CAD claims cover every sheet-metal edge case.

QuotedPart is a third option for a shop that wants to keep sheet yield and cutting assumptions explicit while quoting machining and outside processes in one model. It is weaker on automatic nesting. Choose the tool that leaves the estimator with a number they can defend when thickness or quantity changes.

Sources and limits

Claims are dated where they can change. Product calculations are examples from the stated inputs, not a promise about a customer's quote. Competitor wording is attributed to the source shown.
